The mid-month squeeze

Running out of money before the month runs out is normal — and expensive.

Across African workplaces, unexpected costs rarely wait for payday. Rent, school fees, medical bills and family emergencies land on the 12th just as often as the 28th, and the borrowing options that fill the gap are rarely kind to the borrower.

Up to 35%+

What informal lenders and shylocks commonly charge per month on short-term borrowing — even higher once a borrower has been listed on the CRB and formal credit dries up.

8 in 10

Employers across African markets already field informal salary advance requests from staff — a sign of real demand that most payroll systems aren't built to handle well.

10–15%

Typical monthly rate on conventional salary advances and logbook-style loans — cost that compounds for staff who need a top-up more than once a quarter.

Figures are indicative, drawn from industry and market reporting on informal and formal lending across African economies, and will vary by lender, region and borrower profile. FuataApp does not check or report to the CRB, because earned wage access is not credit.

The alternative

Instead of borrowing at 10–15%, access the wage you already earned.

A salary advance or logbook loan is still a debt — interest accrues, and a missed repayment can land you on the CRB. Earned wage access is different: there's nothing to repay, because it was never a loan.

Salary advance / logbook loan

The old way

10–15% interest, monthly
  • Interest accrues from day one, on top of fees
  • Missed or late repayment can affect your CRB listing
  • Paperwork, guarantors or collateral in many cases
  • Debt that can roll over and compound month to month

The FuataApp way

6% flat admin fee, once
  • No interest — ever. The fee is the only cost, deducted upfront
  • No CRB check, because you're accessing money you already earned
  • No paperwork, guarantors or collateral required
  • Nothing to "repay" — it's settled automatically from your next payslip

How it works

From MOU to mobile money, in four steps.

01

Employer signs an MOU

FuataApp partners directly with your employer under a signed agreement — no company, no access. This keeps the service accountable and payroll-linked.

02

Your wage balance is tracked

Once your employer is onboarded, the app tracks the wages you accrue each working day — in real time, based on your actual pay structure.

03

Request access mid-month

Around the middle of the month, request access to a portion of what you've already earned — enough to bridge you comfortably to payday.

04

Funds land, fee included

You receive the amount requested, less a flat 6% admin fee, instantly via mobile money. It's settled automatically from your salary at month end.

What you get

One transparent fee

🛡

No CRB checks, ever

Because this isn't credit, we never check or report to the CRB. Your credit standing is never at risk.

🔁

No debt, no repayment

There's no loan to service. The amount accessed is simply reflected in your normal end-of-month payslip.

Our impact

Changing how Africa's workforce relates to payday.

When staff no longer need to borrow to survive the month, the ripple effects reach far beyond one payslip. This is the shift FuataApp is building toward, one MOU at a time.

1

Peace of mind, restored

Emergencies stop being a crisis. Staff can meet a mid-month need without the anxiety of finding a lender or a guarantor.

2

Room for financial goals

Money that would have gone to interest can go toward savings, school fees or a small business — the goals borrowing usually delays.

3

A clean break from debt cycles

Earned wage access replaces the need to borrow against next month's salary, so staff aren't starting each month already behind.

4

Dignity in how support is offered

No collateral, no guarantors, no CRB listings — just fair access to money that was already earned through a day's work.

Frequently asked

Questions we get a lot

Straight answers about how earned wage access works, and how it's different from borrowing.

No. FuataApp provides access to wages you have already earned through work you've completed — it is not a loan, credit facility or salary advance, and it is not a lending product. You're simply drawing down money that is already yours, ahead of the normal payday.
No. Because you're accessing wages you've already earned rather than borrowing, there's no credit check involved and nothing is reported to the CRB — regardless of your current listing status.
You can typically access a portion of the wages you've earned to date in the pay cycle — commonly available around the middle of the month, once roughly half the month has been worked. The exact cap is agreed with your employer as part of our MOU.
A single flat administration fee of 6%, deducted from the amount you request. If you request Ksh 10,000, you receive Ksh 9,400. There's no interest, no penalty fees and no hidden charges — what you see before confirming is exactly what you get.
There's nothing for you to actively repay. The amount you accessed is automatically deducted from your salary when your employer runs payroll at month end, and the balance is paid out to you as normal.
Yes. FuataApp only operates through employers who have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with us. This keeps the service tied to verified payroll data and protects both staff and employer. If your company isn't yet a partner, use the "Request a pitch" form and we'll reach out to them.
Once a request is approved, funds are typically sent to your mobile money account within minutes.
No. Since earned wage access isn't a loan, it has no bearing on your CRB record or credit score, and it carries none of the risk that comes with missed loan repayments.
